Marvelous Things Will Happen!

It's Roald Dahl's birthday! We're big fans of the author's splendiferous works at our house. Sprout even wants to be Matilda for Hallowe'en this year :) But since I made Matilda book sandwiches last Roald Dahl Day, I decided to base this year's Dahl-icious lunches on other favourites...

In Sprout's James and the Giant Peach lunch:
  • a little peach cup of sliced cheddar, secured by Miss Spider
  • an EasyLunchboxes Mini Dipper* filled with magical glowing green "Crocodile Tongues" (chopped up gummi fruit snacks)
  • an Odwalla Kids bar (no significance other than she wanted one)
  • a stack of baby carrots held together by Mrs. Ladybug
  • a giant peach cup of strawberries & raspberries with the Earthworm being "buggy for books"
  • a blank Lunchbox Love note on which I've written a reminder: Marvelous Things Will Happen
*You can use dry erase markers to label or decorate both the EasyLunchboxes containers & the Mini Dippers!

Does this lunch look right to you? Or left?

In Bella's lunch, inspired by The BFG:

Have you made any scrumdiddlyumptious lunches or treats, today or any other day, that were inspired by Roald Dahl's books?

Edible Geekery : Rex Manning Day!

Since it's the closest Saturday to the actual Rex Manning Day, my fellow nerdgirls and I thought we'd pay homage with a little blog hop.
Who knows where thoughts come from? They just appear.

I made Bean Sprout a superb lunch.  Superb.  Superb... Superb :)

She has a cheese sandwich, apple wedges, baby carrots with a record cupcake ring, raspberries with cheese music, and yogurt with stars.

Bella has a rock star lunch too. But no quote for hers. Neither girl has seen Empire Records, the cheese quote in Sprout's was just a little fun for me :)

Her EasyLunchbox contains a turkey & cheddar wrap secured with a guitar pick, a clementine orange, apple wedges, a couple of Oreos, some cucumber slices, baby carrots, & grape tomatoes on a music pick. Rock & Roll!

If you haven't seen the film Empire Records and don't know what's with today, today, it's okay... you mustn't dwell...  no, not today... you can't!

Not on Rex Manning Day!

You can still enjoy the lovely lunches :)
So go see what Chaos & Confections has happening:

Oh, The Places You'll Go!

Oh the places you'll go Seuss -ish bento school lunch
Today is Read Across America Day, in honour of Dr. Seuss's birthday (tomorrow, March 2nd, but that's not a school day). I packed Bella a slightly Seuss-ish EasyLunchbox with a few random Seuss references. The cheese Eiffel Tower represents Paris - Bella is interested in fashion, and in the spirit of Seuss I wanted to remind her that if she can dream it, she can do it!

Plus I've long been wanting to use these fabulous World Famous Landmark cutters I got as a Christmas gift from my friend JeeJee of BentoUSA:

World Famous Landmark bento cutters

Today is also National Peanut Butter Lovers Day, which is really every day for Pickle - to say he loves peanut butter is an understatement :)  I made him some heart-shaped peanut butter finger sandwiches stamped with LOVE ♥ I stopped counting when I reached my goal of 101 peanut butter sandwiches, but I wonder what number we're at now...

Love for Dr. Seuss & Peanut Butter!

Happy Mardi Gras!

I had no plans to make Fat Tuesday lunches this year. It's breakfast for lunch day at school - pancakes, which they often want, perfect for Shrove Tuesday / Pancake Day anyways. I figured if they didn't want the school lunch I'd just throw together something purple, green & gold :)

Pickle did want the school pancake lunch, but Beanstalk & Sprout wanted me to make them something. So here's what I threw together quite last-minute:

Beanstalk has a LunchBots Quad packed with apples, grapes, Angry Birds Cheese Nips, & a Clif Bar, made Mardi Gras-ish with purple, green & gold muffin cups & fleur-de-lis cupcake picks :)

Sprout has a purple, green & gold themed Goodbyn Bynto packed with grapes, apples, carrot sticks, string cheese, garlic Triscuit Thins, and a foil-wrapped chocolate doubloon treat. Poor Beanstalk didn't get one of those, I didn't remember I had them until after he'd left for school. Lucky Sprout though!

When they get home from school they'll have a snack of warm, gooey, sugary cinnamon roll "Fake King Cake" like I made last year:

And this year I have plastic King Cake babies to hide in one of the pieces! Beanstalk will get a kick out of that - he's my New Orleans baby :)

Johnny Appleseed Day Bento

Today, some say, is Johnny Appleseed Day.  Beanstalk wanted to buy lunch at school, Pickle wanted a peanut butter pizza sandwich (it's not what you think) and Sprout & Birdie are both home today (I'll make them apple-themed muffin tin meals later), but Bella said "yes, please" to an apple bento :)

Bella's apple-icious Laptop Lunches bento box contains:
  • Gala apple wedges with a caramel dip
  • Fig Newtons skewered with an apple cupcake pick
  • A few pieces of caramel apple candy corn
  • Apple shaped peanut butter sandwiches - the tiny ones were made with the apple shape from a Fall themed mini cookie cutter set that was a gift from Kat of Obento Momma - so cute and they used up all the bread :)
  • A few fruit snacks in a little apple cup
  • Cucumber spears topped with one apple shaped cucumber slice
  • For snack, an Enjoy Life Caramel Apple bar
Here's everything all packed. Her cute owl print cloth napkin from The Red Poppy cushions her sandwiches and keeps the fruit snacks from falling out. And a LunchBox Love note reminds her of how proud I am of her :)

After you read the rest of my post, of course :)

Here's Pickle's peanut butter pizza sandwich :)

Told you it wasn't what you were thinking!

And for my Sailor Boy, leftover ginger teriyaki chicken, bacon horseradish deviled eggs nestled in a garden salad, a satsuma orange, and a Gouda Babybel cheese with a heart shape cut from the wax and stuck on top of the orange, packed in his personal favourite container, EasyLunchboxes.

I remembered the dressing this time! He got Mandarin Orange Sesame packed in an EasyLunchboxes Mini-Dipper. And a Light My Fire spork :)
