Special Delivery Lunches : Cupcake & Pirate

I recently had the pleasure of making fun lunches for my friend's little girl & delivering them to her at school while her mother was away for a couple of days. Her little girl is called Bella too, so I just had to use my alphabet stamps in one of the lunches, I already had the name put together!

Cute cupcake lunch in EasyLunchboxes by BentOnBetterLunches

Bella's Cute Personalized Lunch contains:
  • strawberry Go-Gurt (frozen in an L shape to fit)
  • cupcake ham & cheese sandwich made with a Lunch Punch, stamped with her name, & topped with a cherry tomato
  • roll of Rockets candy (or Smarties if you're American)
  • organic strawberries cut like hearts, with a heart fork pick
  • organic green grapes in a pink flower silicone cup

For the other day, she asked if I could make her a lunch like the one I made Birdie on Talk Like A Pirate Day, but without berries, & jelly instead of cheese on her treasure map sandwich. She definitely wanted me to include the jelly bean treasure & chocolate doubloon though! I packed her lunch in an EasyLunchbox with the treasure in a Mini Dipper.

Both lunches were packed in EasyLunchboxes that she got to keep :) It was fun packing lunches for someone other than my own sproutlets! My friend told me how much her daughter was looking forward to lunch those days, rather than being bummed about having the school lunch, so I really wanted her to like them. And I'm told she loved them

Last Week's Lunches

I made a bunch more lunches than I posted last week. That's usually the case though, since I pack at least a dozen lunches a week - they just aren't all interesting enough to photograph or post. But I do like these ones, I just didn't get around to them until now :)

Bella's flatbread pizza sandwich looked too plain until I added a cheery pink raccoon waving Hi :) My alphabet picks are one of my bento essentials!

Sprout just wanted apples, Triscuits & cheese that day. I added baby carrots anyways & she did eat them :) Heart shapes made it pretty

This one was from Talk Like A Pirate Day. Not as fancy as my Dread Pirate Roberts, but the paper pirate flag pick in the Fig Newtons & the pirate cupcake ring around the string cheese still made it fun.  Arr!

Apple-shaped reusable ice cubes keep the string cheese extra cool.

A Pirate Lunch for my Treasured Girl

I'm so proud of my Bella! She does her best to help me out around the house, and with her little sisters, and she tries her best at school too. She even won an award at school last week! So today she has a treat for lunch, one of our treasured Iced Gingerbread Clif bars :) I'm not kidding - they're a seasonal flavour, and a favourite of hers, and we don't have many left!

Pirate Treasure School Lunch

Bella's Pirate Treasure lunch is packed in one of our new purple-lidded EasyLunchboxes Brights.  She has English cucumber slices, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes,  a Fig Newton & Oreo, & the Gingerbread Clif bar treasure :) I also tucked in a pirate map cloth napkin, & a Lunchbox Love note to thank her for her help & let her know I treasure her!

Today's lunch is linked up to Bento for Kidlet's Meatless Monday!

Pirates Don't Change Diapers Muffin Tin Meal

Wednesday was Talk Like A Pirate Day, and I read the small sproutlets a pirate bedtime story. Birdie really liked it and took it to bed with her, so yesterday I read it to her again and made her a muffin tin meal to go with it. I'm a longtime admirer of Keitha's Story Themed Lunches, and wow, kudos to her - tying a book into a meal is harder than it looks - and she does it every school day! So here is my imitation = flattery tribute lunch pic, Keitha-style :)

Pirate Muffin Tin Meal
As you can see, our copy of the book is well-loved :)

Pirates Don't Change Diapers, written by Melinda Long and illustrated by David Shannon,  is a sequel to How I Became A Pirate, (which we also loved). In the book, Jeremy Jacob gets a visit from his pirate friends, who wake his baby sister Bonney Anne from her nap and then must help take care of her. And of course, pirates don't know how to take care of a baby!

The baby in the book, Bonney Anne, has strained spinach for lunch. I didn't have any spinach, but I did have broccoli, so I substituted that - it's green! I made a little wailing Bonney Anne from cheddar cheese, and just happened to have a daisy bento pick just like the flower in her baby hair :)

Pirate Theme Muffin Tin Meal

The rest of the lunch is just a little bit pirate-y in general. She has parmesan goldfish, anti-scurvy oranges, grapes on swords, white cheddar Pirate Booty, and mozzarella cheese X-marks-the-spot with one piece of the cheese stuck through a skull & crossbones cupcake ring.

Birdie loved the pink pirate ring best!

I love the Bonney Anne skull & crossbones on the back cover of the book!

Arrr Ye Hungry, Me Hearties?

It's International Talk Like A Pirate Day!  And Muffin Tin Monday too :)

I had kind of a hard time thinking of something pirate-y AND healthy to make for my sproutlets. The first things to come to mind were gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins, and gummy fruit snacks shaped like gems or sharks... which the kids would love... BUT, candy doesn't have a place in our lunches this week - I've taken the Family Fresh Cooking Project Lunchbox 30-Day Challenge pledge :)  I'll give the scallywags their chocolate doubloons some other time - this week their pirate's gold will come in the form of sliced carrots ;)  So, what do little pirates eat? Whatever they can catch with their little swords! Their seaworthy tins hold turkey dog octopi, fish sticks, fish eggs, a school of goldfish, grape jellyfish & peach starfish, and a cheese map around the tin to the X marks the spot over the carrot gold.

Cap'n Bean Sprout

First Mate Black Birdie

My schoolgirl didn't get a pirate booty lunch, but this friendly frittata should put a smile on her face anyways...

Carrots & mozzarella stripes, mango fruit leather squares nestled in almonds, and ham, cheese & peppers frittata (modified from this recipe for the ingredients I had).

Pickle got playful dolphins peanut butter sandwiches made with a Flipper Bytes sandwich cutter, yogurt & apple juice.
