Cat in the Hat Pocket Cracker Snack

Here's a little pocket-size bento snack with a Cat in the Hat theme :)

Pocket size Cat in the Hat cheese, pepperoni. & cracker snack

It's a stack of Triscuit crackers topped with pepperoni sticks & string cheese cut & arranged like the famous Cat's hat, packed in a tiny bento box for Sprout to carry in her pocket. This snack was so tightly packed right up to the lid that it was still a perfect hat when she opened & ate it :)

Simple Seuss Sandwich

This week at Pickle's school they have been celebrating Seuss Week. Today I packed him a simple Cat in the Hat peanut butter sandwich:

The stripes were daubed on lightly using food markers. He also has some cookie dough Oreos & yogurt with coloured sugar sprinkles.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Today is Read Across America Day, & we're also remembering Dr. Seuss, the author & artist, whose birthday was yesterday!
"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child." ― Dr. Seuss ♥

I Seuss-ified Birdie's lunch:

  • 1 Fish 2 Fish Red Fish Blue Fish cheese & Goldfish crackers
  • Cat in the Hat striped Gala apple slices
  • A Green egg & Ham, with a Crinklebine cupcake pick :)
And it's in a Cat in the Hat bento box!

“I can read in red.
I can read in blue.
I can read in pickle color too.”
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

Pickle's PB sandwich is Sam's sign, from Green Eggs & Ham  :)

No green eggs & ham though. My picky Pickle would not could not eat them here nor there nor anywhere, so instead, I gave him green yogurt  :)

Oh, The Places You'll Go!

Oh the places you'll go Seuss -ish bento school lunch
Today is Read Across America Day, in honour of Dr. Seuss's birthday (tomorrow, March 2nd, but that's not a school day). I packed Bella a slightly Seuss-ish EasyLunchbox with a few random Seuss references. The cheese Eiffel Tower represents Paris - Bella is interested in fashion, and in the spirit of Seuss I wanted to remind her that if she can dream it, she can do it!

Plus I've long been wanting to use these fabulous World Famous Landmark cutters I got as a Christmas gift from my friend JeeJee of BentoUSA:

World Famous Landmark bento cutters

Today is also National Peanut Butter Lovers Day, which is really every day for Pickle - to say he loves peanut butter is an understatement :)  I made him some heart-shaped peanut butter finger sandwiches stamped with LOVE ♥ I stopped counting when I reached my goal of 101 peanut butter sandwiches, but I wonder what number we're at now...

Love for Dr. Seuss & Peanut Butter!

A Seussalicious After School Snack

Cheese Lorax & Fruit Truffula Trees

She would probably say "Someone has too much time on their hands!"

Heheh ... I don't often make things like this... when trying to get 5 littles out the door there's no time for tiny fiddly bits - & something like this could never survive in a lunchbox anyway - but when I got the idea in my head I just had to try it - so I made it for after school snack :)

"I am the Lorax, I'm made out of cheese!"

Cheese Lorax & Fruit Truffula Trees

My idea worked - my mini penguin and and gull shaped bento cutters did make a fine cheese Lorax! I trimmed the wings off and used them for arms, used a tiny oval cutter for his feet, and added sugar eyes. The truffula trees are watermelon and cantaloupe on drink swizzle sticks :)

Some cutters I used for this snack:

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

The Cat in the Hat's SLOW Sandwich

Pickle loves the Cat in the Hat,
If you're a longtime reader you already know that!
It's Fancy Sandwich Friday
And he needs a lunch to go,
So with my handy dandy Lunch Punch
I made him a peanut butter SLOW!
For those of you not in the Cat in the Hat know
The SLOW is the car from the big picture show
Mine doesn't look anything like the real one
But Pickle didn't care, he still thought it was fun :)

I also packed yogurt (decorated with stickers)
A spork and a lunchbox note.
Pickle doesn't mind if I show off his lunches
But shh! Don't tell him you saw what I wrote!

The lunch notes and stickers came in this cute little pack
From Hungry Girl & the folks at Fiber One
Saying thank you for sharing my healthy snack
Thanks right back,  Chewy Snack Champs, for the lunchbox fun!

To make the Cat's Super Luxurious Omnidirectional Whatchamajigger
I used a Lunch Punch sandwich cutter from the Vrrrrmmm!! vehicle set
Then I stamped the word SLOW with mini letter cutters
(and 2 circles since I lost the O from my alphabet)

It is fun to have fun but you have to know how...
For fun sandwich ideas Fancy Sandwich Friday is happening now!

DIY Cupcake Toppers - Dr. Seuss Birthday!

We had Pickle's birthday party last weekend. I can't share pics from the party since there were other people's children in every shot - but just envision lots of red, turquoise, and yellow balloons hovering above lots of kids painting ceramics. We had his party at Paint Your World, a local ceramic and glass art studio. It was lots of fun!  Oh, I did take an Instagram of the balloons :)

Did I mention it was a surprise party? Yes, Pickle requested a surprise party this year - which was why we had it a week after his birthday, and not at home :) He also requested a Dr. Seuss party. While the birthday package at Paint Your World included cupcakes, they didn't do themes - so I made my own Dr. Seuss themed cupcake toppers! Along with the balloons, and Dr. Seuss paper plates & napkins, it was plenty Seussian.

I'd seen adorable Dr. Seuss cupcake toppers, even printable ones, on Etsy etc, but since I was short on time and funds, I decided to just make them myself, the cheapest way possible. You can't get much cheaper than free! Which was what these ones were, since they used stuff I already had - just paper, food picks (toothpicks would work too) and a printer :)

To make them, I used photos of the party plates (snagged from the stock photos on the party store website) that I printed 16 to a page and cut out. I taped a food pick to the back of a circle printed with one plate design, and glued one of the other plate design over it,  back to back. Easy peasy!

Not perfect, (can you tell I don't own a circle cutter?) but not too shabby!

I ended up using different picks than the ones shown with the supplies, I thought yellow and turquoise would match better - not that it mattered, since the picks didn't show at all once they were stuck in the cupcakes :)

Thank you Pickle's Grandpa who thought to take a picture of the Cat in the Hat cupcakes before they were handed out!

Lunch looks Seussalicious!

I made those Seuss-inspired lunches some time ago but never got around to posting them ... In Birdie & Sprout's Sassy boxes, apples for The Cat in the Hat, goldfish crackers & gummy fish for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, & green scrambled eggs & honey ham for Green Eggs and Ham.  Bella doesn't like eggs cold so had green plastic ones from last Easter filled with shredded cheese & almonds for her salad instead. Beanstalk doesn't like eggs at all so he got a Clif Z Bar in his Lock & Lock.

No better day than today to finally share them!

Beanstalk and Bella will also be sharing Dr. Seuss pencils with their classmates in honour of the beloved author's birthday. Pickle already handed some out his class on his birthday last Friday.

We love Dr. Seuss! Who doesn't?!  And what a Seussful week we've had so far! I did repeat many of  the themes, but there are some new things too :)

In case you missed it, Monday I made Birdie & Sprout a Seussilicious muffin tin meal with One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish goldfish grahams & gummy fish, a Gala apple & mozzarella Cat in the Hat hat, three cheese trees with 3 chocolate sprinkle fleas, from Fox in Socks, scrambled & dyed Green Eggs and Ham, strawberry, mozzarella & cream cheese Thing 1 and Thing 2, and green tapioca pudding Oobleck:

Yesterday, I made Bella a Seussified bento:

Green egg-shaped grapes & ham :) A Cat in the Hat cracker stack plus mozzarella string cheese. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish goldfish grahams & gummy fish, & another Cat in the Hat-inspired snack of skewered strawberry fruit leather and mini marshmallows.

And finally,
Today's Seuss-inspired lunchboxes:

Beanstalk's PlanetBox is pretty plain and simple, the way he likes it. He has a Star Belly Sneetch egg peanut butter sandwich, Cat in the Hat striped Cheez-it crackers (spicy & white cheddar), egg-shaped Granny Smith apples & skewered applewood smoked ham for Green Eggs & Ham, and a couple of green foil-wrapped chocolate eggs just to be sweet :)

Pickle wanted me to take a photo of his sandwich using his iPod's Dr. Seuss Birthday camera app.  I used it for Dr. Seuss' photo above too. It's fun!

I've learned that Pickle doesn't like his sandwiches to look too much like characters he loves, or he doesn't want to eat them. Remember my Angry Birds sandwich? I had to keep it in the freezer for him to admire for weeks. I don't really mind... the Cat in the Hat's hat is a much easier sandwich to make than the Cat in the Hat! So that's what he got, with yogurt & a couple of chocolate green eggs:

Bella's class is having a Read Across America pizza party today so I was told she didn't need a lunch, but just in case she wanted something healthy to go with her pizza, I packed her a little snack inspired by :

Nothing much, just a pair of celery pants & an apple wedge moon, from the last story in the book, What was I Scared of? I also added some lime gelatin Oobleck & a honeycrisp apple Cat in the Hat hat, just because :)

Poor empty pants
With nothing inside them.

That particular story reminds me of my Bella. She would totally feel sorry for and hug the poor lonely pants :)
