A Seussalicious After School Snack

Cheese Lorax & Fruit Truffula Trees

She would probably say "Someone has too much time on their hands!"

Heheh ... I don't often make things like this... when trying to get 5 littles out the door there's no time for tiny fiddly bits - & something like this could never survive in a lunchbox anyway - but when I got the idea in my head I just had to try it - so I made it for after school snack :)

"I am the Lorax, I'm made out of cheese!"

Cheese Lorax & Fruit Truffula Trees

My idea worked - my mini penguin and and gull shaped bento cutters did make a fine cheese Lorax! I trimmed the wings off and used them for arms, used a tiny oval cutter for his feet, and added sugar eyes. The truffula trees are watermelon and cantaloupe on drink swizzle sticks :)

Bats, Cats & Witches' Hats

There are only a few more school days until Hallowe'en, so I packed lots of it into today's lunches:

Beanstalk has a Laptop Lunches bento box packed with ham on honey wheat bat sandwiches & a meathead skeleton, heheh. It was once the stick of a lollipop - a gift from my blogger friend who went dye-free (Biting The Hand That Feeds You). He also has apple wedges, cantaloupe chunks, a granola bar, and some chocolate eyeballs.

Pickle took his yubo. He watched me pack it, and in his own words:
"Yes! I love it! Blog this as my best lunch ever!"
He especially liked the witch hat sprinkle-topped yogurt:

To make the hat shape, I set a mini cookie cutter on top of the yogurt and sprinkled inside it. It'll probably be all messed up by the time he eats lunch but he saw it so that's okay :) I also added a couple of pumpkin cookies and a little cup of peanut butter we brought home from a restaurant (upside down with a sticker on it), for with his snack. He likes to eat it with a spoon.

Bella got a witchy kitty turkey & cheese sandwich in her EasyLunchbox. On the side she has tomatoes, cantaloupe, and some cookies for snack (there are Fig Newtons under the pumpkin cookie). Oh, and a little chocolate bat.

Sprout is dressing up as Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service for Hallowe'en, so I stuck a witch pick in with her strawberries & carrots. In the EasyLunchboxes Mini Dipper (decorated with dry erase marker) she has cheddar cheese. Under the pumpkin cookie and chocolate is an apple juice box.

In the largest section of her Bynto, she has scaredy cat peanut butter sandwiches, stacked, and a witches cauldron filled with star crackers, and a Hallowe'en Lunchbox Love note - they all got one of those.

Oh, I almost forgot! Pickle wanted me to blog a picture of his yubo lunchbox with the Hallowe'en lid on :)

Johnny Appleseed Day Bento

Today, some say, is Johnny Appleseed Day.  Beanstalk wanted to buy lunch at school, Pickle wanted a peanut butter pizza sandwich (it's not what you think) and Sprout & Birdie are both home today (I'll make them apple-themed muffin tin meals later), but Bella said "yes, please" to an apple bento :)

Bella's apple-icious Laptop Lunches bento box contains:
  • Gala apple wedges with a caramel dip
  • Fig Newtons skewered with an apple cupcake pick
  • A few pieces of caramel apple candy corn
  • Apple shaped peanut butter sandwiches - the tiny ones were made with the apple shape from a Fall themed mini cookie cutter set that was a gift from Kat of Obento Momma - so cute and they used up all the bread :)
  • A few fruit snacks in a little apple cup
  • Cucumber spears topped with one apple shaped cucumber slice
  • For snack, an Enjoy Life Caramel Apple bar
Here's everything all packed. Her cute owl print cloth napkin from The Red Poppy cushions her sandwiches and keeps the fruit snacks from falling out. And a LunchBox Love note reminds her of how proud I am of her :)

After you read the rest of my post, of course :)

Here's Pickle's peanut butter pizza sandwich :)

Told you it wasn't what you were thinking!

And for my Sailor Boy, leftover ginger teriyaki chicken, bacon horseradish deviled eggs nestled in a garden salad, a satsuma orange, and a Gouda Babybel cheese with a heart shape cut from the wax and stuck on top of the orange, packed in his personal favourite container, EasyLunchboxes.

I remembered the dressing this time! He got Mandarin Orange Sesame packed in an EasyLunchboxes Mini-Dipper. And a Light My Fire spork :)

Too Cute To Eat

I made sweet little Hello Kitty bentos for the little girls' lunches yesterday:

Hello Kitty is a hard-cooked egg, cutified with a pink Hello Kitty egg mold, and embellished with food markers. Her little friends atop the strawberries are picks available from All Things For Sale, as are the cutters used for the cheese. I turned a muffin cup inside out for the applesauce - it makes more of a bowl shape that is easier to scoop a spoon against the side of. The applesauce is topped with a slice of strawberry, and surrounded by seedless red grapes. A few berry rice cakes are in there too :)

Well, Sprout wouldn't eat her egg. She didn't want to eat Hello Kitty! "I want to save her!" she told me and insisted I put Hello Kitty eggie in the fridge. Birdie made an angry face when she saw the applesauce. "I hate applesauce!" she told me in a tone that said I should have known that, crossed her arms, and wouldn't even sit down in her chair until I removed the offending fruit cup from the bento. Birdie had no qualms about biting into her Kitty-faced egg though!

Later, while the girls were having an afternoon snack, I was on the phone, and Sprout overheard me telling my friend that she wouldn't eat her Hello Kitty egg, "I suppose she doesn't like to eat food with faces" I said. "No!" piped up Sprout, "It's because it's cute, so I want to keep it! But see! I can eat a face!" and she arranged her snack like so:

I stand corrected :)
