Live Long And Prosper Star Trek Lunch

I bet Spock would describe this bento as "Fascinating, but highly illogical." :)

Live Long & Prosper Vulcan salute bento lunch

Sailor Boy and I are both a little bit Trekkie, so I know he'll get a kick out of it! Inspired by the Vulcan salute, his PlanetBox lunch contains:

  • Turkey & cheddar on wheat Vulcan salute sandwich (should have skipped the turkey since Vulcans are vegetarian, but I forgot)
  • Freshly picked cherries! Sailor Boy has been looking forward to cherry season, these will be a welcome surprise :)
  • Greens salad topped with cheese "live long & prosper"
  • Gouda Babybel carved with a Starfleet Insignia
  • Mandarin & sesame dressing for the salad
  • Safeway cheddar cheese star crackers
  • Trader Joe's yogurt covered star cookies

The Vulcan salute sandwich was made using a cookie cutter & stamper from this most excellent set by ThinkGeek:

I love them!

If we can arrange for someone to stay with the younger sproutlets, Sailor Boy, Beanstalk & I will be seeing Into Darkness this weekend - I can hardly wait!

Star Trek Muffin Tin

Boldly going where no muffin tin meal has gone before :)

Star Trek muffin tin meal

Birdie's muffin tin meal contains:
  • Trader Joe's yogurt vanilla cookies
  • Pacific Rose apple wedges
  • Organic baby carrots
  • Cantaloupe stars
  • Cheese stars
  • Ranch seasoned star crackers

Lately Birdie's been leaving cantaloupe uneaten, claiming she doesn't like it. I don't buy that, since she used to eat it without complaint - so I keep offering it. Today, she ate it! "I like this cantaloupe when it's stars," she informed me. Stellar!

Edible Geekery : Star Trek Lunches for my little Trekkie

Here are a couple of Star Trek lunches I packed for my 6th grader:

Today he has 2 Starfleet Insignia sandwiches stacked (yes, I know it's sideways, that's how it fits) & a star PB kebab (to use up the scraps), star shaped crackers, a few grapes, fruit leather, & half an apple, packed in a Laptop Lunches bento box. And a Lunchbox Love note ♥

It was still dark out when I took that photo at 7:00 this morning!

Last week he took the Enterprise & stars PB sandwiches, apples & grapes, space crackers, fruit leather rolls, and a little container of chocolate rocks asteroids, packed in a PlanetBox Launch.

The Enterprise was made with my Star Trek cookie cutters from ThinkGeek. The ship shape was too big for the bread, but my friend and fellow Trekkie, Astrid of Lunches Fit For A Kid, pointed out I could make it in 2 pieces. Of course! The Enterprise's saucer could separate from the ship body after all :)

Lunch was Star Trek-tacular!

Heheh, I know, that was terrible, but I couldn't resist ;)

Edible Geekery : A Star Trek Lunch is Cool For School!

Beanstalk went off to school with a cool space themed PlanetBox lunch. He has beef jerky in the Little Dipper, fruit leather, a satsuma orange, space shape Goldfish crackers, little chocolate covered "asteroids" for a treat, & a Star Trek phaser peanut butter sandwich surrounded by mini starburst sandwiches:

I've been itching to use these new Star Trek cutters from ThinkGeek!

They're actually cookie cutters, but I'm no baker, I'll be using them for sandwiches :) I'll have to get creative with using the scraps though, they aren't the ideal size for bread... I asked Beanstalk which one he wanted today and he chose the phaser, which leaves the most bread behind, so I made the stars.

I usually include a cloth napkin with lunch, placed over the sandwich cut-outs. It keeps them from shifting, and keeps the crumbs from migrating too :) I did that after I snapped the pic. And the Horizon chocolate milk box went in the pocket of the PlanetBox Rover bag, with a little ice pack that you can't see :

The PlanetBox Rover is just his size & style. And off he goes!
