Pickle's Minion Birthday Bento & Party

My little Pickle is 10! He asked for a Despicable Me Minions pool party. Having had Mia Bella's birthday party at the community pool just a few months ago, I knew we couldn't really decorate, and the kids would want to spend the whole time in the pool so no snacks or games were needed. I got blue & yellow balloons & Minion partyware & favours from Whidbey Party Store, a Minion cake & a big jug of lemonade. Pool parties are easy peasy lemon squeezy :)

We had the party the day before his birthday, so I recycled one of the cake toppers in his school lunch the next day.

I was in a total rush (what else is new) so was super thankful for my Lunch Punch birthday cake sandwich cutter! I did take a few seconds to sprinkle some yellow & blue sanding sugar on his yogurt. And tucked under the oatmeal cookie is a pouch of Minion gummy fruits snacks left over from the goody bag treats. The goody bags also held a Minion bubble soap, Minion bouncy ball, mini Play-Doh, lollipop, & Minion tattoos.

In the tiny party room the Minion tablecloth, partyware, & balloons were all that was needed - because bonus, the pool was already all blue & yellow :)

I didn't even notice until after the fact that the Minion cake had a swimming theme too! I honestly didn't look closely at the design in the bakery catalog, it was the only Minion cake so that was it:

Pickle noticed though, and he loved it. His favourite thing to do in the pool was float & paddle around in an inner tube :)

That's Beanstalk peeking out of the other inner tube above, and below, Sprout floats past Pickle and his pals.  Everybody had a great time!

Simple Seuss Sandwich

This week at Pickle's school they have been celebrating Seuss Week. Today I packed him a simple Cat in the Hat peanut butter sandwich:

The stripes were daubed on lightly using food markers. He also has some cookie dough Oreos & yogurt with coloured sugar sprinkles.

World Book Day - Bee A Reader!

It's World Book Day - but I forgot about it until I saw Eats Amazing blog about it! So nothing creative from me. If you want to see some creative bookish bentos, go see all the fun book-related posts chez Eats Amazing!

I did have some cute cupcake picks about reading so I stuck one in Bella's cheese bagel.  She also has cucumber wedges, Girl Scout cookies, & dried strawberries in the bagel hole (beneath the Bee A Reader pick).

Pickle got a bee sandwich.

He also got a couple of oatmeal cookies & a GoGurt.  Bella got a GoGurt too.

I Seuss-ified Birdie's lunch:

  • A Green egg & Ham, with a Crinklebine cupcake pick :)
And it's in a Cat in the Hat bento box!

I can read in blue.
I can read in pickle color too.”
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

Pickle's PB sandwich is Sam's sign, from Green Eggs & Ham  :)

No green eggs & ham though. My picky Pickle would not could not eat them here nor there nor anywhere, so instead, I gave him green yogurt  :)

Could you make it with a smile?

Pickle woke up really early today, so he was ready for lunch earlier than usual. I was up early too, with him, but I was not ready, I was tired and wanting a nap, and was still washing everyone else's breakfast dishes when he asked me to make his lunch. I told him I would make it "in a minute". I guess I said it in kind of a crabby voice, because he came over and lifted his hands to my cheeks and asked "Could you make it with a smile?" So I did.

Pickle can be very easy to please :)
